- Brother Raymond & Friends is a nonprofit organization of men and women with a high moral regard for the quality of life of men and women who've lost their way of life thru joblessness, drug or alcohol addiction, and may now be considered 'homeless.'
- We are committed to helping the homeless in New York City. We have focused our attention primarily on the downtown area of Manhattan called the Bowery. Our research indicates that this area is in immediate demand of our resources because of the amount of homelessness and poverty in this area. Our resources will help provide physical relief to these recipients.
- It is our intention to become a friend to the friendless and a brother to the brother-less by giving them informed and sound counseling (at the recipient's request) on how to recover form their predicament.
- We also consider it our moral obligation to help keep the homeless from sleeping on the sidewalk, streets and doorways of New York City by helping them to seek shelter / affordable housing.
- We further believe that it is also our resonsibility to help these individuals to seek employment and or job training so that they might someday become more productive citizens and better benefit our society.
It is the ultimate and future goal of Brother Raymond & Friends to see that every homeless man and woman gets back into mainstream society, receives medical attention if needed, be provided with legal representation, if meccessary and receive the dignity and respect that all human beings deserve.
Our History - Brother Raymond & Friends was founded by Raymond Williams in August of 1997. On the third Saturday in September of that same year he started feeding the homeless in the Bowery. He immediately realized the need of the people in that neighborhood and has remained an advocate for the homeless and hungry.
- BR&F (Brother Raymond & Friends) include members of the clergy, lawyers, doctors, teachers, salesmen and everyday people that have joined together for the purpose of helping the homeless in NYC.
- BR&F have fed approximately 2500 men and women every year since 1997. We provide clothing, shoes and sometimes blankets to the needy.
- Our interaction with over 30,000 people since 1997 has led to positive results while building trusting relationships with our brothers and sisters in the streets.
- Hundreds of men and women have a new outlook on the possiblities that their lives have to offer because of interaction with BR&F.
- BR&F has provided High School students with letters of credit to help them fulfill school requirements to participate in some type of community service.
- The volunteers at BR&F are well trained in food handing procedures and people skills.
